The development of the Snowfall frigate was an upgrade program by the Redbud Group right after the Snowflake. It resulted in significant improvements to both armor and component compatibilities, allowing the craft to fight outstandingly alongside interception ships.
The Snowfall's development was plagued by setbacks. Most believed that this upgrade was unnecessary. After all, in the eyes of plutocrats, the Snowflake frigate performed well enough as a heavy interception ship, and made enough of a profit. But researchers at the Redbud Group carried on with this upgrade anyway, seemingly trying to make the Snowfall perfect by fixing the minor design flaws of the Snowflake. The Board of Directors finally compromised with this pedantry, which was fueled by ""academic spirit and perfectionism"" (or just lots of jabbering), and established an independent research institute separate from the Redbud Group's various ship development departments—the Ninth Research Institute.
In the next 30+ years, upgrade plans and trial ships of the Snowflake were continually produced and tested, but no breakthrough was made. If it weren't for Director Nakagawa Shimadzu's unwavering support of the Ninth Research Institute, this project may have ended without any achievements. In 987 AG, the Snowfall was finally successfully produced.
The Snowfall maintains the layout of the Snowflake, and carries on its tactical role as a heavy disruptor, while markedly enhancing its maneuverability, speed control, capacitor, and processor capability. Its frontal underbelly is equipped with multiple disruption field generators, with its space for modules expanded, and an array of energy allocators equipped, which enhances the ship's energy efficiency significantly. When the emergency self-preservation core activates to increase shield resistances, propulsion is still inevitably affected. But for Snowfall, with its improved maneuverability, this period of time is enough for experienced warriors to escape the danger zone.
