As a successor of the Sentinel cruiser, the Kingsguard cruiser inherits the role of a heavy command ship from its prototype. It has excellent armor and configuration compatibility, and it can work with firepower ships and provide them with effective enhancements.
The modern Kingsguard is a full upgrade of its prototype. The improved capacitor and processor capability provides spaces for new components, devices, and weapons. The advanced Passive Supplemental Screen Generator and Experimental Virtual Screen Generator improve the survival rate of the ship on the battlefield. As an upgrade of ""the most reliable ally"" the Sentinel, the Kingsguard is undoubtedly reliable too.
The ship is supposed to be a part of the ""Revenger"" arms program launched by Neo-Europa because of ""The Coming"" AG 983.
In 986 AG, the Modine Industrial Group, whose aesthetic were farthest away from Neo-Europa's tastes, undertook the upgrade project. They won the job because they successfully developed the Hussar and proved their ability in designing and researching. They also proved a fact, which was an tease from Daily Planet, that Modine Industrial Group could present a surprise instead of a shock as long as they do not participate in the initial design or the exterior design.
J. Rochelle Karak, Modine Industrial Group's chief designer, who believed himself to have a perfect sense of aesthetics, insisted on upgrading the Sentinel by applying minor modifications to the ship's body. He also changed the materials of ship's armor to make it look strong, like it could destroy anything in its path as long as it charged. He seemed to contradict the ridicule by doing so.
Of course, this was probably a prank by Karak. After all, the Kingsguard was essentially an enhancement ship. Despite that, Karak insisted that the modification was ""necessary."" Moreover, the research team led by Karak had the Kingsguard equipped with the advanced ""Tide"" engine, which made up for the ship's weakness in speed. The armor was enhanced to further improve survival rate. The capacitor and the processor capability also broke through the bottleneck. All of these advantages made the Navy neglect their little prank.
