As an upgraded version of the Bastion battleship, the Citadel battleship serves as a retrofitted ship on the battlefield. The whole system of the ship is holistically balanced with defense standing out. After being equipped with X-Weapon Damage Dynamic Adjustment Module and an Injection Wave Power Core, the ship was greatly enhanced in terms of firepower. More amazingly, the ship's capacitor and processing capability were further enhanced, allowing more space for the equipping of new modules.
The Citadel battleship was one of the central arms projects created during the Great Construction Era, around 400 BG to 20 BG. It wasn't meant to be an upgraded version of the Fortress Battleship when it was first created. But its shape happened to resemble that of the Fortress.
The powerful external armor along with the interconnected defense and weapons systems ensured the ship's survivability on the frontier. This design was meant to adapt the ship to the epoch-making change brought by the stargate theory, when the appearance of stargates that caused the buffer zones between state borders to disappear into the void, was coupled with the ambitious neighboring Oracle Empire, who sought to gain a military edge by taking over the twin star regions for stargates establishment. So when the Citadel was created, it was supposed to protect the stargate engineering teams, act as a ""thruster"" into the border regions, and help in creating an ad hoc ""Great Wall"" that could be expanded continually.
In the modern age, since the most important battlefield roles of the Citadel and Fortress overlapped, Neo-Europa's old ship system reform plan merged the two together. The Citadel thus became an upgraded version of the Fortress.
The Citadel today maintains its original role on the battlefield. Genius researchers at the Modine Company have equipped it with X-weapon damage dynamic adjustment modules and an injection wave energy source, allowing the battleship to avoid being surrounded when it is focused in a firefight.
In the words of the researchers from the Modine Company, who were always a bit loony, ""Who says the Citadel has to just sit there and take it?""
