The Chestnut frigate was developed as an update to the Pinecone. The upgrade project, which started immediately after 898 AG to prepare for Galactic War IV, maintained its role as a firepower and recon frigate on the battlefield. The ship possesses advanced processor capability and energy efficiency, which make space for advanced devices and weapons.
Actually, the Chestnut frigate actually uses the same basic design as the Fir, another class of frigate. Svarus had initially intended for the ship to be an assault and disruption ship. They wanted to combine the Pinecone's speed advantage and the Fir's SK-430 arms, hoping that the updated ship could work with battlecruisers to deal with important targets.
But experiments proved that the all-important railgun cooling device could not coexist with the processor power demand of the disruption system. Therefore, the Svarn government decided to restore the ship's role and made it a firepower and recon ship. So, in the end, the Chestnut was not involved in Galactic War IV.
After Galactic War IV, Winter Industries went ahead with the upgrade project. The researchers finally decided to remove the processor power demanding interference system, and added an EM armor system with auto energy regeneration to ensure the ship's survival on the battlefield.
A series of improvements made the Chestnut the most useful frigate in Svarus.
In 949 AG, in order to detect potential situations in Geonesia after it had entered peacetime, researchers added a stability system to the EM tracks to further stabilize the weapons system.
